Can an MTC water cooled spindle run without a chiller?
Small spindles in a mild climate can run on a pump and a large reservoir, but coolant must always flow while the spindle turns. For 3 kW and above, metal cutting, long shifts or hot workshops, use a chiller so the coolant temperature stays stable.
What coolant should I use in a water cooled spindle?
Use clean distilled water with an anti-algae additive, or the coolant recommended for your chiller. Avoid tap water, which leaves scale in the jacket. Change the coolant regularly and check hoses for kinks or leaks before each start.
