MTC Spindle: overview
Most CNC routers in India start with an MTC spindle because it is simple, reliable and cheaper than an ATC spindle. A CNC MTC spindle has no drawbar or air supply; you loosen the ER nut, swap the cutter and tighten. The range includes the MTC air cooled spindle (square and round, 0.8 to 12 kW) and the MTC water cooled spindle (0.3 to 12 kW, up to 60,000 RPM), including the popular MTC spindle 2.2 kW and MTC spindle 5.5 kW sizes.
MTC spindle for CNC router: sizes and collets
For an MTC spindle for CNC router work, collet size follows power: ER11 and ER16 on small high speed spindles, ER20 on 1.5 to 2.2 kW, ER25 on 3.5 to 5.5 kW, and the MTC spindle ER32 collet or ER40 on 7.5 kW and above. Larger collets take larger cutter shanks and grip harder.

What is an MTC spindle?
An MTC (manual tool change) spindle is a CNC spindle motor whose cutter is held in an ER collet and nut and changed by hand. It has no pneumatic drawbar, so it needs no compressed air or tool rack. MTC spindles are cheaper and simpler than ATC spindles and suit jobs that use one or two tools.
Can I upgrade my router from MTC to ATC?
Often yes, but it is more than a spindle swap. You need an ATC spindle that fits the Z-axis mount and load, a tool rack or magazine, a compressed air supply with a solenoid valve, and a controller that supports tool change macros. Check the Z-axis can carry the heavier ATC spindle before you buy.

MTC air cooled spindle or MTC water cooled spindle?
