Which collet does an MTC air cooled spindle use?
It depends on power: ER20 for most 1.5 to 2.2 kW spindles, ER25 for 3.5 kW, and ER32 or ER40 for 7.5 kW and larger. Always replace the collet with the same ER size and check the nut thread matches the spindle nose.
Why does my MTC air cooled spindle run hot?
Common causes are blocked cooling fins, long cuts at low RPM where the shaft fan moves little air, a VFD set to the wrong frequency or voltage, or worn bearings. Clean the fins, check the VFD settings against the nameplate, and have the bearings checked if noise or heat keeps rising.
