Is a closed loop stepper as good as an AC servo?
For many routers it is close enough at a lower price: it will not lose steps and runs cooler than an open-loop stepper. An AC servo still holds torque better at high speed and handles higher dynamic loads, so production and high-speed machines usually use AC servos.
